Pictures for Daddy

Nathan has been traveling for a couple days now and we miss him a whole bunch! I have been enjoying sending him pictures of Logan while he has been gone. I just hope it doesn't back fire and make him miss home more. I really just want him to know we are thinking of him and love him. Here are some from yesterday.

On the days Logan goes to daycare (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday) we always walk out to the driveway and say good morning to the birds and any neighbors that happen to be out. Logan found a ball on the way out and thought it a good idea to play a little catch before we left. Then our neighbor and good friend Larry came out and said good morning before leaving for work. Logan took off and ran across the dewy grass with his arms wide open to give him a hug! It was so sweet! When we talked to Larry later that night he said it was a great way to start his day. :-)



Last night after daycare I rushed home to throw together a salad to take to a little potluck dinner at some new friends house. These new friends are members of our small group from church. We typically meet at our house the 2nd and 4th Thursdays. Our fun neighbors are in it as well. SO anyway... last night we went over to Laura and Andy's new house for a little cookout. They have a great park across the street so after dinner Logan and I jetted over there for some fun. Nathan and Logan LOVE playing in the park so we had to send Daddy some pictures of our fun. (I really love his new hat, don't you? Thanks again Grandma!)

(There was another boy there named Logan - he was a little older - and his dad had to keep calling his name since he was being a little mischievous. My Logan was all sorts of confused with some random person yelling his name.)

Every night before I go to bed I always check in on Logan. This is the scene I found last night. He looked so sweet and peaceful so I had to take a picture and send it to Daddy.

Nathan is in Chattanooga, TN this morning and should be getting on the road at 9:30. He drove til 11:30 last night and isn't allowed to leave again for 10 hours. LOTS of rules when you are driving a commercial truck! He has 11 hours today to make it the 600 or so miles home! He says he'll make it, but the truck is a piece of crap so we'll see how it handles through the hills of Kentucky. While I do enjoy having the whole bed to myself I can't wait to have my hubby back next to me where he belongs!

We have a busy weekend ahead of us, but we are looking forward to a lot of time with our families. I hope you all have a great weekend too!!

A few videos...

I don't have much to report. Logan is awesome. Since getting his tubes his vocabulary (words we understand) has close to doubled. His frustration level has also close to doubled since mommy and daddy can't understand everything else he says - which is A LOT. He seems to be making some sort of noise all the time.

Nathan is going on an impromptu business trip - leaving tomorrow and back Friday. I am looking forward to mommy/Logan time though!

Must haves...

Another one of those cute moments I want to remember...

This morning we were getting ready to head out to daycare. Logan typically always carries his lunch box to the car and then I pick him up and we walk out to the driveway and say good morning to the birds and neighbors. This morning was a little different as when we were on our way out to the drive way, Logan says, "No No!" and pointed back toward the house. So I let him down and he went running back in the house. I got the car loaded up and went back in the house to see what he was up to.

I called for him and out he comes wearing his new hat that my mom bought him on Monday, backwards. Then in his right arm is his plastic baseball bat and the left arm had the plastic ball. HA! Please keep in mind that it is pajama day at daycare so he is wearing red pajamas with a bunch of different tools all over them. It was hilarious. He walks over to the step down into the family room turned around and lifted his arms up ready to be picked up. It may not make you all laugh, but my gosh is he hilarious to me!

This is a picture my mom took of him on Monday in said hat. He also got a new soccer ball and shoes. Thank you Grandma!!

Oh and then last night during our small group get together at our house Logan was being VERY generous. One of the couples brought some cookies. Every time Nathan grabbed one Nathan would follow him back to his chair, take the cookie and give it to someone else! HA! He did it two or three times... it was pretty dang funny.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! We have a pretty quiet weekend ahead of us. Tomorrow will be a lot of time spent at home (minus a quick trip across town to drop off all our e-cycle garbage. All dead electronics, etc etc - dropped off and recycled locally and appropriately! I'm very excited to get rid of a lot of the junk in the house!) On Sunday my dear dear friend Leah is coming by with her boys for a quick visit from across the street! I'm VERY excited as I haven't seen her since Logan's birthday party! YAY!!

I scream... You scream...

And if you are a toddler named Logan and you scream then Mommy sends you to the front of the grocery store with Daddy to quiet you down with some ice cream while she finishes up.

Nathan being the awesome daddy he is took pictures with his blackberry. Logan is a BIG fan of double fisting. If he has one fork he has to have two forks. If you give him one cracker he must have two crackers and so on and so on. The same holds true for the spoons... but DOUBLE that and you have tonight's quadruple fisting extravaganza!

Oh the joys of taking a toddler grocery shopping. It was always a non event in the past, but the last couple trips have been MUCH more difficult. I have to hide bananas and any other recognizable food items from him or he insists on eating them right then and there. But either way it is still nice to have them along for the shopping ride. It makes it much less of a chore and much more fun for mommy!

Really Mom?

Last night we really enjoyed a beautiful night outdoors in the warmest day this year! Logan was running all over the place and we were playing quite the game of tag - it was too funny. He really loves running and being chased.

It was getting close to bath time so we ventured onto the deck to have some calm down time. Logan really thought that climbing was a better use of his time.

I, of course, thought it would be best to try to take pictures of him. This is what Logan thought of picture time:
He must have tilted his head right before I clicked the picture because this was NOT the face I was expecting when I looked at the camera and I busted out laughing. It is SUCH a face. I like to think that Logan is very sarcastic in his head and is thinking, "Really Mom? Seriously? Just take the picture!"

Logan's "tricks"

This morning I was able to get Logan to perform on command. This is no small success! Logan knows how to do so many things, but the second I want to show him off for friends/family he shyly smiles, tilts his head and more often than not runs in the other direction.

This morning however he was agreeable! YAY! Enjoy a few of his "tricks!"

Yesterday...

Logan had a super fun day yesterday while spending his normal Wednesday with his Grandma! Mom had a doctor's appointment mid morning so she met my dad in the next town over and they played a nearby park for well over an hour. Mom was able to get lunch in Logan and received a great compliment that the woman had never seen a better behaved toddler in her life. HA! Logan was pretty worn out by the time lunch was done and my mom took this picture about a half mile up the road! My boy played REALLY hard with Grandpa in the park it seems!



After a nice long nap when they arrived home Logan showed off his climbing abilities to grab Grandma's McDonald's cup. I think at this point the pop had been replaced with water, but still the little monster climbed up on his little table and wiggled his booty along the half wall to grab Grandma's drink. She came around the corner to find this:

He is such a little stinker! Logan and Grandma played outside all afternoon and we were outside after dinner. Needless to say Logan slept GOOD last night! Although I did wake up at 5:30 to the sound of Logan blowing kisses over the monitor. Seriously the kid is such a lover boy! ha! Thankfully we all were able to go back to sleep for a bit before getting up for the day!

The weather today is supposed to be even nicer! I want to think of something super quick to make for dinner so we can get outside and enjoy the 80 degree day! (Tomorrow is supposed to be back in the low 60's... gotta love Michigan!)

A lovely weekend and tubes!

This weekend was GREAT! Nathan and I were saying last night - it felt like we really were able to relax, but also accomplished a lot around the house.

I'm going to start with Thursday though. Our church is pretty big and encourages us to be part of a small group. We have been going there over a year, but haven't joined in. Our neighbor invites to be part of one with them and some other couples in our area of town. Our first get together was on Thursday. I was nervous as I tend to me in new social situations, but it was actually great fun. We are going to meet twice a month at our house and I'm very much looking forward to the next get together. Logan did great as well. As we expected he sat on Nathan's lap for a while, but then all of a sudden he jumped off and started

Friday night I honestly don't recall what we did - I remember we made nachos for dinner, but that is about it. Must have been a pretty low key night. Oh and I remember that I kicked Nathan's snoring booty out of bed around 12:30 so we both could get some sleep. Logan woke up pretty early Saturday morning and he and I hung out upstairs for a bit to let Nathan sleep longer. Then we went down and surprised him with a nice big JUMP on the pull out couch. hehe... Daddy highly encouraged me to go back to sleep so I did! It was great!

The rest of the day was spent with a little laundry, some working in the yard, raking leaves, relaxing and playing and we had a play date with my friend Leah and her almost 3 year old son, Joe. It was a good time. We even turned the grill on for the first time this year and enjoyed some hot dogs because that was all the grill worthy stuff we had in the fridge.




Now that our family room is a functional space... YAY for furniture (we bought it off craigslist in January.) Nathan was able to play some video games in the afternoon. Logan thought it was great and wanted to help his daddy play the football video game. They were quite cute.

Sunday was church and then play time. I went to the Adventure Center (Logan's daycare) to decorate for the teacher appreciation week. We did a jungle theme and the place is crawling with monkeys and tigers and zebras. VERY cute! Nathan wrote out a to-do list in the morning and we were able to get it all accomplished and then some before bed. Got to love sitting with your hubby watching a show on the DVR while folding socks... romantic I know... :-)

This morning we got Logan up around 6:30 and headed to get his tubes put in. I was the most nervous of the bunch I think. Logan was a trooper. We didn't get him dressed - just changed his diapers and left him in his pajamas. We were only in the lobby about 15 minutes when the doctor came out and told us he did great and once he woke up they would call us back. That took another 10 or so minutes. He was pretty upset when we went back there. I think that was my least favorite part of the whole thing... the fact that we weren't there when he woke up from the anesthesia. But he calmed down pretty quick and we gave him some juice and a banana since he hadn't been allowed to eat and it was 8:15 at that point. 16 oz of juice and 1/2 a banana later we were out the door. That was A LOT of juice, but he was miserable and will probably only have milk the rest of today and tomorrow to average it all out.

Once we got home and he saw Grandma he climbed right over to her for some cuddles. When I called to check in on him about an hour ago she said he was running all over the place like nothing had happened this morning. I'm betting he'll take a nice nap too if he isn't asleep already.

Really Logan? Seriously?

Each day Logan makes us laugh for some new reason - or maybe an old reason we still find funny. The kid can climb pretty much everything he finds. Last night it was the OUTSIDE of the stairs. And you can see Nathan's legs as he is coming down the stairs. I might have gotten quite the look of, "really Lindsey - you have to take a picture of him BEFORE telling him to get his butt down." At least that is how I took Nathan's disapproving look. ha! Then of course to get down he just lets his feet slip down and hangs on to the bars and slowly lets his hands slide down the bars. The kid is stupidly strong.

Then he busts out the frisbee he got for Easter from my mom. A few weeks he was out at my in-laws and was playing frisbee with his Aunt Deb and her dog, Apollo. What did Logan take away from this learning experience? That you return a thrown frisbee in your mouth and only allow mommy to take it out of said mouth when she commands you to "drop it!" Oh the wonders that my child learns and retains! HA! He has done this the past two nights. Sorry the pictures are crap, but I just took them real quick on my blackberry. I wonder what he'll come up with tonight! (Hopefully nothing TOO crazy as we have people coming over for our first Bible study - which by the way I'm VERY nervous about due to the fact that I've NEVER participated in one. Fingers crossed I don't make a fool of myself...)

Easter Dinner Play Time

After an early nap time on Sunday we headed over to my Aunt Me and Uncle Frank's house for some traditional Easter dinner and festivities. All the little ones had an egg hunt in the house each trying to find a different colored plastic egg. Logan mostly just let me find them all and he put them in his bag. Whatever works.

Then the grown up kids (my generation) had a hunt of their own. My aunt and uncle are always so creative with this. We had to do a 10 word word-search finding words that described us. But we didn't know what the words were - just had to find them. Then had to put all the words in alphabetical order and take one letter from each of the words to create another two word clue that would tell us where our prize was! Our prize was 10 scratch off lotto tickets! Nathan and I won as we found ours first. AND we won because we got the most money on the scratch offs... $7.

After a super yummy dinner most everyone ventured out to the front yard for an impromptu game of baseball and golf. Logan of course was totally dressed for the golfing portion of the show. He was SUCH a doll baby all day. I could seriously not get enough of him!

He was totally stuck, but I had to take pictures before rescuing him. lol

LOVE the above picture because it captures something that is SO Logan. 90% of the time the boy is on his feet he is running somewhere. And 90% of THAT time is spent yelling AHHHHH!!!! My mom says we'll have to work on that if he ever hopes of being a track star. Not sure the competition would like a yelling boy next to them! LOL But love that this picture totally gets my yelling running boy.

On a NOT so happy Easter Sunday note. Logan had two pretty scary moments throughout the day. I am thanking God for my husband more than you can even know. And I'm also thanking God I didn't witness either situation. The first happened shortly before dinner. Logan was pretty hungry so I made him a half sandwich with peanut butter. I guess he took too big of a bite and started choking on it. He couldn't breath and Nathan who was holding him at the time noticed and was able to reach in there and pull it out. Nathan was pretty shook up, but Logan just smiled and took another bite.

The second was outside when the party was winding down. Most everyone had left and Logan was the only little one there. I was on the porch talking to my mom and aunt when all of a sudden my aunt screams. I look up just in time to see Nathan turn around holding Logan and a car, which had slammed on it's brakes take off again. Logan clearly doesn't understand what a road is. He just wanted daddy to chase him. THANK THE LORD that the driver was paying attention and Nathan grabbed Logan in the nick of time. I didn't see the actual interaction, just the aftermath of Nathan walking up - putting Logan down and breathing very deeply to calm his nerves. Logan of course was laughing. Needless to say this is something we are going to be working on a great deal this summer. I DO NOT want my son to run into the road thinking it is funny.

Those were the only negative parts to our day, but it certainly made us hug our boy a little tighter and I was so thankful to Nathan - he is a wonderful father and just went further in proving how amazing he truly is.

Egg Hunt!

On Sunday morning I was feeling pretty crappy so we stayed home from church and Nathan let me sleep in as late as I wanted. It wasn't too late as I was anxious to start our own egg hunt tradition.

I remember growing up and on Easter Sunday we would wake up before the sunshine and quickly come out of our sleepiness to look for eggs around the living room/dining room area. My dad got pretty great at hiding them from us. (Especially the year that he hid one so well we didn't find it until the summer. And truly there was no smell to alert us to it... we just randomly found it one day. Kind of strange that it never got rotten egg smelly.)

I couldn't wait to hide the eggs around the living room for Logan! I didn't know if he was going to get the whole process, but was pleased when he quickly went for the eggs without any prompting from us. Although, we did eventually have to point him in the right direction for some of them. Being the crappy mother I am I neglected to get my child a proper Easter basket. OOPS! So Nathan found a basket my mom had made me for my high school graduation open house to hold all the cards! The basket it huge, but Logan dragged it all around the living room looking for eggs.

I think his biggest thrill was slamming the eggs in the bottom of the basket to continue the cracking...smashing... etc of the previous day! When I picked up the basket afterwards it rained egg shells! Lovely.

It was such a joy to watch the excitement on his face when he saw another one of the eggs! I can't wait until next year when I can hide them a little better and make it a little harder and give my son a proper basket to smash them all in!

Easter Egg Decorating

On Saturday I thought it a great idea to decorate eggs. I first thought it best NOT to use the cups of dye because Logan + dye would just be BAD... I can see the rainbow dining room carpet now! WOAH!

I was shopping and bought some finger paints thinking that would be the best choice - just let him paint it all. THEN I found these no mess dye shaker thingies and I thought THAT would be the best choice. THEN I heard about these little q-tip like things that have dye in the stick part and then you crack it and the dye goes down to the tip and you paint with it. Now of course THAT was the best idea. I.was.wrong.

It was messy, Logan had very little interest in actually doing it. He would paint a little on the egg then pass it to me with a very loud, "ALL DONE!" And try to get out of his high chair. I kept say, "only one more... only one more..." and I swear if Logan could roll his eyes he would have.

Thankfully the pictures kind of make it look like he was into it.

When Logan got to his last egg he smashed it on his tray discovering that the "ball" was breakable. WOW - NOW this whole experience was fun for him. He smashed them.... peeled them.... poked them.... prodded them... mushed them... he really and truly is ALL BOY!

Easter wrap up

I am happy to report that Logan is doing better! His fever finally broke Friday evening - THANK GOD. We were able to participate in part of our weekend Easter celebration on Sunday.
