Possessed by Demons!

Okay - I'm still not technically in the land of the blogging - I'm still actually under piles of paper at work... BUT I couldn't resist a blog post.

Logan is sick. Double ear infection, lungs sound "junky" (doctor's words) and just all around pretty miserable feeling. We found this out Sunday morning when we took him to his doctor's after hours clinic. Now let's rewind about 18 hours...

Nathan picks Logan up from his parents house on Saturday afternoon. He had spent Friday night there while we had a splendid date night! Nathan's mom relays that he was pretty fussy. Well if what Nathan brought home was the "fussy" she spoke up... sweet Jesus our phones should have been ringing off the hook.

I'm not exaggerating when I say the child was having an exorcist moment right there in the living room. He hadn't napped, but 45 minutes that day (after an early 6:30 wake up) so we had that to contend with as well. I was SOOOO excited for Logan to come home, but when he comes in the door and just lost it my first thought was - take him back. Part of me wishes I had taken a video of him, but that would have just been poor parenting on my part. Although it would have appropriately conveyed the HORROR that was Logan for the first 45 minutes of his arrival to his loving home. It got to the point where Nathan and I were literally scared for him. He was just NOT himself and was miserable. He was thrashing, hitting us, kicking us, banging his hands and feet on the floor, screaming bloody murder, couldn't catch his breath due to how much he was crying. If we gave him food - he threw it. If we gave him something to drink he would swat it away. I tried to give him Motrin and he hit me. I felt so helpless as I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I called the on call service for Logan's pediatrician and waited for a call back.

We ended up taking Logan upstairs to an early bath - he was crying and screaming so hard that he was horse and was losing his voice. He couldn't catch his breath. Nathan ended up getting in the bath with him just to hold/comfort him some more. I ran upstairs after calling MY mommy for some reassuring words that I was doing everything I was supposed to. (I love my momma!) I FINALLY got him to stop crying by blowing bubbles in the bath water (which I'm sure he peed in, but whatever...) After about 10 face fulls of water Logan finally cracked a smile and then a very raspy giggle. Then it was super fun to dunk momma's head in the water. FINALLY - my baby had returned. THANK THE LORD!

We got him dressed in his pajamas (by this point it was well after 6 and he hadn't eaten dinner or anything, but we calmed him down enough that we got some food in him, some Motrin in him and some milk/water/juice/something liquid in there too. I received a call back from the sweetest nurse practitioner. Seriously - the woman was so so wonderful. She said that if it got bad again to trust my momma gut and take him to the ER. Thankfully the rest of the night he was acting pretty normal so we put him to bed and he slept through until about 6:30 when we woke to him once again - possessed. I finally decided enough was enough. We calmed him back down and decided to take him to after hours when they opened at 9:00 as opposed to the ER. We knew he wasn't dangerously sick and since he was calmed down and eating and fairly happy we felt comfortable waiting the two hours. (Plus our ER co-pay is crazy expensive and the urgent care/after hours is or normal office copay cost.... yes - money did play a factor... sue me.)

So we were waiting in our car for the doors to open at 9:00. We were the second ones in there - the first ped's appointment and Logan was such a doll. Blowing kisses to the nurses, giving them his winning smile and waving to everyone we passed. Seriously kid - you are supposed to be sick - ACT LIKE IT! ha!

The doctor commented that his ears looked horrible and his lungs sounded junky, but that he was a great way to start her day. He was so sweet and didn't fuss and just smiled up at her while she did her exam. Yes - I'm raising a lady's man!

We got some amoxicillin and headed out to my parents' house. We stayed most of the day there relaxing and watching the Super Bowl. Logan was his normal happy self - not even a hint of the previous day's (and morning's) crazy miserable child. He had fun playing with the "kee-deee kaaad" (kitty-cat) and even found some big shoes to fill.....

(We eventually had to hide Grandpa's boots or Logan would have just stood in them all day. He couldn't walk in them at all and just kept falling over, but still insisting that he put them on. lol)

All in all - it was a whirlwind of an 18 hour period, but I'm happy we figured out what was going on and our little guy is getting back to normal! Okay back to work - don't tell my boss I was here!
