Our fun times have revolved around water it seems!

July 10th was my Dad's 62nd birthday - as per usual my dad didn't want anything big and fancy - he never does. He even said he didn't want a get together as we have had a few recently. But being that I don't like to let a birthday go by uncelebrated we planned on going out there for breakfast. (It worked out well as we had commitments the rest of the day.) We ended up spending Saturday night so we could have a full morning together.

Dad had been mentioning a fish shaped cake my grandma used to make him when he was little. So I thought - OH - I should make him a fish shaped cake! So I searched high and low (about 6 hours before we were set to head out to my parents house) and called here and there looking for a fish shaped cake pan... alas I could not find one. My aunt had the great idea of buying a football shaped pan and then baking a separate regular cake and creating my own fish. That was the plan.

So out to my parents we went and I was planning on putting the cake together after Dad went to bed. Apparently I did not hear the WHOLE story about Grandma's fish cake... I missed the part where Dad said that they actually had the ACTUAL mold she used... I saw it as soon as we walked in the door and about lost it! I think my head was full of many of these %$&^&%*&#@ types of words. GRRRR! Oh well!

So I did put the cake together and wow did it have a lot of character.... it was pretty disastrous. Oh well - it is the thought that counts! I wrote him a nice note for him to find the next day and hopefully next year I'll actually get my act together and make him the ACTUAL fish cake. Thankfully - it still tasted good!

After breakfast we got dressed for church, but stopped for some breakfast dessert of fish cake!! ha!

It was a fun morning and the fish cake from hell will be a good memory! After church mom and dad headed out to go fishing. All in all it was a great day for my dad!! Happy Birthday Daddy!
